Venesky-Brown are looking for an experienced Chargehand with experience in Civils/Highways for on-going work based in the Leiston, Suffolk area, to support our client Kier Infrastructure who has been appointed to deliver off-site infrastructure works in the area of Sizewell C.
This is a long-term opportunity working on a major infrastructure project, with overtime available and opportunities for progression.
Job Details
- Location: Leiston, Suffolk
- Long-term work
- Start Date: October 2026
- Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 6:00pm + potential weekend overtime
- Pay Rate: £23.46 per hour PAYE (first 39 hours)
- Overtime: Enhanced overtime rates paid after 39 hours
- + Holiday Pay
- + Pension Scheme
- Lodge available for qualifying workers
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate a small civils/groundworks gang
- Deliver morning briefings and communicate daily work activities
- Allocate tasks and coordinate labour, plant and materials
- Supervise highways, roads and general civils works
- Support excavation, backfilling and reinstatement activities
- Drainage, ducting, utilities and associated groundworks
- Work from RAMS, drawings and site instructions
- Record daily works and progress using assigned tablets/site systems
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, quality and productivity
- Liaise with site management and other supervisors
- Remain hands-on and support the gang with works where required
Experience Required
Applicants should have:
- Previous experience as a Chargehand, Ganger, Lead Groundworker or Civils Chargehand
- Strong background in civil engineering, highways or road construction
- Experience running and coordinating site gangs
- Good general groundworks and civils knowledge
- Experience giving briefings and allocating daily works
- Confidence using tablets or digital systems to record site
Requirements
- Minimum Gold CSCS card
- Must have SSSTS or SMSTS
- Must have Driving Licence/ own transport to site
- Must have previous civils experience
